Verified September 12, 2026. The City of Sedona will hold its free Household Hazardous Waste and Electronics Collection Event on .
The event will take place in the Sedona Red Rock High School parking lot at 995 Upper Red Rock Loop Road, Sedona, Arizona 86336.
This is a City of Sedona event, not a Bella Junk Removal event. Always confirm your eligibility and accepted items with the City before loading your vehicle. Call (928) 203-5060 or review the official Sedona waste collection event page.
Who Can Use the Sedona Hazardous Waste Event?
The City lists the event as serving residents of the City of Sedona and residents of unincorporated Yavapai County. The City’s examples of eligible county communities include:
- Village of Oak Creek
- Cornville
- Rimrock
- Lake Montezuma
- Verde Village
The City page does not list addresses inside Camp Verde, Cottonwood, Clarkdale or Jerome as eligible. Those are incorporated municipalities rather than unincorporated county communities. If you live in one of them, call (928) 203-5060 before making the drive. Do not assume that every Yavapai County address qualifies.
Sedona residents living on the Coconino County side of the city may participate in Sedona events. The City also directs those residents to the Flagstaff Hazardous Products Center for year-round disposal options.
What Is Accepted at the October 24 Event?
Commonly accepted household hazardous waste includes:
- Oil-based paints, stains, solvents, thinners and adhesives
- Aerosol paints and spray products
- Household cleaners
- Pesticides and pool chemicals
- Antifreeze, gasoline and kerosene
- AAA, AA, C, D, 9-volt, rechargeable and button batteries
- Light bulbs, tubes, ballasts and fluorescent lamps
- Fire extinguishers
- Standard grill and camping propane tanks
Electronics Accepted
The event accepts many common electronics, including computers, monitors, televisions, phones, printers, scanners, microwaves, vacuums, small household appliances, power tools, cameras, radios, video game equipment, cables and wires.
Medication and Sharps Accepted
The event accepts expired vitamins, over-the-counter medications, prescriptions and sharps. Controlled substances are not accepted. Call the City before the event if you are uncertain how medication or sharps must be packaged.
Paper Shredding Limit
Paper shredding is limited to four boxes per vehicle. Only paper is accepted. Do not include cardboard, card stock or credit cards. Paper clips, binder clips, staples, rubber bands and hanging file folders may remain with the paper.
If you have more than four boxes, call the City and ask how the excess should be handled rather than arriving with additional vehicles.
What Is Not Accepted?
The City says the following materials will not be accepted:
- Latex and acrylic paint
- Motor oil
- Car or other vehicle batteries
- Lead-acid batteries
- Tires
- Ammunition, fireworks and explosives
- Compressed gas cylinders other than propane, including oxygen cylinders
- Radioactive materials, including smoke detectors
- Controlled substances
- Commercial business waste
- Bulky items such as furniture and appliances
- Refrigerators and other items containing refrigerant
The City also states that hazardous waste not specifically included on its accepted list may be refused.
One easy mistake is assuming all paint qualifies. The event accepts oil-based paint, but it does not accept latex or acrylic paint.
Two Event Limits to Plan Around
CRT Television and Monitor Limit
The event will accept a maximum of 20 cathode-ray tube televisions or monitors on a first-come, first-served basis. If you have an older tube-style television or monitor, arrive early and consider calling before loading it.
Four Boxes of Paper Per Vehicle
The shredding limit is four boxes per vehicle. Contact the City in advance if you have more than four boxes or are uncertain whether your documents qualify.
How to Prepare Household Hazardous Waste for the Drive
The City’s event page does not provide detailed vehicle-loading instructions. The precautions below are based on general guidance from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and the U.S. Fire Administration. Contact the City for event-specific directions.
Keep Products in Their Original Containers
Leave labels attached and keep products in their original containers whenever possible. Never transfer hazardous products into food or beverage containers. Call the City before transporting anything unlabeled, badly corroded or already leaking.
Never Mix Chemicals
Do not combine products to save space. Incompatible household chemicals can release toxic gases, ignite or explode.
Check Containers Before Loading
Make sure lids and caps are closed. Do not transport an actively leaking container until the City tells you how to handle it. Place questionable but sealed containers upright in rigid plastic secondary containment, and keep incompatible materials separated.
Protect Battery Terminals
Cover exposed terminals on 9-volt and lithium batteries with nonconductive tape, or place each battery in its own plastic bag. This reduces the possibility of a short circuit but does not eliminate every risk. Do not transport a swollen, damaged, leaking or unusually hot battery without first asking the City how it should be handled.
Use a Proper Sharps Container
Use an FDA-cleared sharps container when possible. If one is unavailable, FDA guidance allows a heavy-duty plastic household container, such as a laundry detergent bottle, if it is puncture resistant, leak resistant, stable and fitted with a tight lid. Label it clearly and confirm the event’s packaging requirements with the City.
Transport Propane and Fuel Carefully
Close propane valves, keep cylinders upright and secure them against movement. Keep gasoline and propane away from passengers and provide ventilation. Do not put propane cylinders in a sealed trunk. Never transport a leaking cylinder or fuel container.
Secure the Rest of the Load
Keep containers upright and prevent them from tipping or sliding. Do not stack heavy objects over liquids. Drive directly to the event, do not leave the load unattended in a hot vehicle, and promptly remove anything the event refuses.
Confirm the Rules Before You Leave
Event rules and capacity can change. Before loading your vehicle, confirm that your address qualifies and that the City still accepts every item you plan to bring.
