The short answer: there’s not much you need to do. Most of the work is ours — that’s the point of hiring a junk removal crew.
That said, a few minutes of prep before we arrive makes the job go faster and ensures nothing gets loaded that shouldn’t. Here’s what’s worth knowing before your appointment.
You Don’t Have to Move Anything
Labor is included. We come to wherever the items are — bedroom, garage, backyard, shed, attic. You point, we load. There’s no need to drag anything to the curb or stage it in the driveway before we get there.
The vast majority of jobs are straightforward volume-based pickups. We assess what you’ve got, confirm the price, and get to work. The only exceptions are jobs that involve demolition or significant disassembly — things like hot tub removal or shed removal — which are quoted based on the specifics of the job. For everything else, you’re not paying extra for the labor. It’s already built in.
Decide What’s Going Before We Arrive
The one thing that genuinely helps is knowing what you want removed before the crew shows up. Walk the space ahead of time and make the decisions — what goes, what stays. Indecision on the day of the job slows things down and can make the process more stressful than it needs to be.
You don’t need a written list or anything formal. Just have a clear sense of the scope before we get there.
Mark or Separate Anything You’re Keeping
If a space has a mix of items — some going, some staying — it helps to make that distinction obvious before we start loading. A few simple ways to do it:
- Stage everything you want removed in one area or pile. If it’s in the pile, it goes. If it’s not, it stays.
- Use painter’s tape, sticky notes, or colored tape to flag individual items that need to be removed when they can’t easily be separated from things you’re keeping.
- Move anything you’re keeping to a separate room or clearly out of the work area before we arrive.
- If none of that is practical, just walk with the crew and point. We’ll follow your lead and confirm before loading anything that’s not obvious.
We’re not going to grab something without being sure it’s going. But the clearer the separation, the faster the job moves.
Access and Staging
A few quick things that help the job run smoothly:
- Unlock gates, sheds, storage units, or any areas we’ll need access to before we arrive.
- Let us know about any access constraints when you book — steep or narrow driveways, a septic system on the property, vehicles we’ll need to navigate around, or HOA rules that affect where we can park or stage.
- If there’s a long carry distance from the items to where the truck will be parked, a heads up helps us plan the job before we start.
For properties with buried septic systems — common throughout Camp Verde, Rimrock, Cornville, and other rural areas of the Verde Valley — let us know where the tank and drain field are located before we position the truck. Our F-550 weighs approximately 12,000 lbs loaded and can damage a buried system if we’re not careful about placement.
What Happens After We Load
We don’t consider the job done when the last item hits the truck. Before we leave, we sweep, shovel, or rake the space depending on what the job requires. Loose debris, dirt, and any stray material left behind gets cleaned up. The space will look clean when we’re done — not just empty.
A Few Things We Can’t Take
Junk removal covers the vast majority of household and property items, but there are some materials we’re not able to haul:
- Hazardous waste of any kind
- Wet paint or paint cans with liquid remaining
- Chemicals, solvents, or unknown substances
- Medical or biological waste
- Asbestos-containing materials
